HIRKA: Weather Outfit App
Overview
HIRKA started as an Instagram Reel. The joke was simple: if a Turkish mother designed a weather app, it would never show you a number. It would just tell you to take your cardigan.
People loved it and asked when they could download it. Puoi Studio turned that reaction into a real product, owned it end to end and launched it on the App Store and Google Play. In its first week it reached No. 1 in Weather on the App Store in Türkiye.

The challenge
Weather apps answer the wrong question. Nobody gets dressed in degrees.
Every weather app gives you 15°, 60% chance of rain and 18 km/h wind, then leaves the real decision to you: what do I put on before I leave the house?
The demand was already proven by the Reel. The hard part was turning a joke people loved into a product they would open every single morning, and launching it fast enough to catch the attention while it was still warm. No ad budget, no marketing team, a product partnership of two.
What Puoi Studio owned
One person holding the product, the strategy and the story.
Product Owner
- Owned the roadmap, backlog and priorities from idea to store release
- Wrote the feature specs and design handoffs, and signed off every screen
- Set the product rules: one clear decision per day, same answer on every surface
- Turned user feedback and usage data into the priorities for each next build
Product Strategy
- Positioning: a decision, not a degree
- Four outfit levels instead of a forecast, personalised by cold tolerance and how you travel
- Freemium model: daily answer free forever, HIRKA+ for the personal layer
- Retention loops: 21:30 "tomorrow" notification and a one-tap evening check-in
- Store screenshots that sell the decision, not the forecast
Social Media Strategy
- Launched from the audience of the original Reel, who had asked to be notified
- Built a separate @hirka.app account so the product has its own voice
- Faceless Reels series "If HIRKA were a person", with one recurring AI voice
- Daily weather cards, carousels and question stories as a posting system
Key product decisions
Small product, strong opinions.
A decision, not a degree
HIRKA reads feels-like temperature, wind and rain and gives one of four answers: tank-top weather, cardigan weather, coat weather, or stay in. Thresholds shift with your own cold tolerance, and get warmer layers earlier if you cycle or ride a motorbike.
"Hırka havası."
Cardigan weather. The whole forecast in two words.
A voice everyone already knows
The brand is a Turkish mother, drawn as a mascot in a coral cable-knit cardigan: warm, a little bossy, always right about the cardigan. Her voice runs through notifications, empty states and the evening check-in, so the app feels like a person and not a utility.
"Hava döndü, hırkanı aldın mı?"
The weather turned. Did you take your cardigan?
Free is useful, Plus is personal
The daily answer stays free, which keeps the share loop alive. HIRKA+ adds the personal layer: wardrobe scanning, an outfit picked from your own clothes, a layer plan for the day, the full week and a packing list for trips.
"Bordo yün hırka. Sabah ve öğlen yeterli."
Burgundy wool cardigan. Enough for morning and noon.
The product
Warm, knitted and readable in one glance.
A soft cream and burgundy palette, a coral knitted rope as the signature element and big, friendly type. Each weather level has its own colour, so you know the answer before you read it. No gradients anywhere, every surface is a solid colour.

Screens from the November 2026 UI update: one token system, solid colours only, the same clothing tile on every screen.
Retention
A mother who keeps score.
HIRKA's mother turns the daily answer into a small habit. In the first two weeks she asks one question each evening, reacts to the answer, adjusts your thresholds and hands out a weekly report card with badges. Every card is shareable, which turns retention into reach.

The notification is the product.
Most mornings users never open the app. A short line on the lock screen is enough, so the copy got as much design attention as the screens.
